Nora Fatehi Faces NCW Summons Over ‘Obscene’ Song Controversy

The recently released song “Sarke Chunari Teri Sarke” from the South Indian big-budget film “KD: The Devil” has sparked widespread controversy on social media. Featuring performances by Sanjay Dutt and Nora Fatehi, the song has been criticized by many viewers for being “obscene” and “sexually suggestive.”

Following the backlash, the song was removed from YouTube. The issue has now drawn the attention of India’s National Commission for Women (NCW), which has taken suo motu cognizance of the matter and initiated proceedings.

During a hearing held on Monday, the film’s director Prem, lyricist Raqueeb Alam, and representatives from the production house were present. However, Nora Fatehi was absent. Although her legal representative attended on her behalf, the commission did not accept this and has asked the actress to appear in person by April 27. Actor Sanjay Dutt has also been directed to appear before the commission on a specified date.

Expressing strong dissatisfaction, the NCW Chairperson stated that disrespecting women in the name of creativity cannot be tolerated. The filmmakers claimed they did not fully understand the deeper meaning of the song’s lyrics, but the commission rejected this explanation.

Eventually, the makers issued a written apology, admitting the song had a negative impact on society. They also committed to undertaking initiatives focused on women’s empowerment over the next three months and submitting a report to the commission.
