Bangla New Year 1433: Govt outlines large-scale celebration plan

The nation is set to welcome the Bengali New Year 1433 with traditional fervor as the government and various cultural organizations complete extensive preparations. This year’s celebrations, marked by colorful processions, cultural performances, and traditional fairs, will center on the theme of unity and democratic revival.

Festivities at Ramna and Dhaka University
The dawn of April 14 will see the capital resonate with the sounds of Chhayanaut’s traditional melodies at Ramna Batamul. Cultural organizations, including Jatiotabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (Jasas), are slated to hold flagship programs to usher in the new year.

As per government directives, all official celebrations will commence with the National Anthem, followed by the iconic anthem of the day, "Esho He Boishakh."

A central attraction remains the Mangal Shobhajatra, organized by the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Dhaka. This year, the procession will move under the banner “Harmony of the New Year, Revival of Democracy,” reflecting the current socio-political aspirations of the nation.

Fairs and Cultural Showcases
The Bangla Academy, in partnership with the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC), will host a seven-day New Year fair from April 14 to April 20. The event will feature discussion sessions and diverse cultural showcases.

For those seeking traditional folk heritage, the Bangladesh Folk Art and Crafts Foundation will launch a 14-day Boishakhi fair at its premises starting April 20.

Inclusivity and Social Outreach
The government has emphasized inclusivity for the 1433 celebrations. All museums and archaeological sites nationwide will remain open to the public, offering free entry for children, students, and persons with disabilities.

Furthermore, special arrangements have been made to serve traditional Bengali cuisine in prisons, hospitals, and children’s homes. Educational institutions across all levels—from primary schools to universities—have been instructed to organize their own festive programs.

Nationwide Security and Public Facilities
To ensure a smooth celebration, district and upazila administrations will lead local processions and essay competitions. Ethnic minority cultural institutes will also host specialized events highlighting regional heritage.

In the capital, temporary medical centers, drinking water points, and sanitation facilities are being installed around Suhrawardy Udyan and Ramna Park to accommodate the massive influx of celebrants. Law enforcement agencies have confirmed a nationwide deployment to ensure a foolproof security blanket at all major venues.
