UN Chief Reaffirms Support for Bangladesh

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has reaffirmed the United Nations’ steadfast support and solidarity with Bangladesh during a meeting with Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman at the UN Headquarters on Thursday.
During the meeting, Guterres extended warm congratulations to Bangladesh’s newly formed government and praised the country for its humanitarian leadership, particularly in providing shelter and assistance to forcibly displaced Rohingya people.
The discussion also covered various global issues, including the challenges faced by developing and vulnerable nations amid the ongoing global oil crisis. Both sides emphasized their commitment to enhancing cooperation between Bangladesh and the United Nations in tackling international challenges and promoting sustainable development.
Dr. Rahman highlighted how the global oil crisis disproportionately affects poorer countries. On behalf of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the foreign minister invited the UN Secretary-General to visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time, an invitation which Guterres welcomed and appreciated.
